You may be unaware that when an existing supply contract comes to an end, some energy suppliers simply “roll-over” the contract. This is where the contract is automatically renewed for a new period, but at a different rate per kWh. This renewal rate can often be more expensive than the previous and may render the customer to pay much higher energy costs than necessary. It is always advisable to shop around for available rates from other suppliers before accepting a renewal offer from your existing supplier.
Whenever a business is sold or changes ownership, the existing customer should inform the energy supplier. Similarly, the new owner should register their business with the existing energy supplier – the process is known as a Change of Tenancy (COT). The existing energy supplier will continue to supply the new business but without a supply contract. The energy used will be at deemed rates which are much more expensive. The existing supplier may also try to sell a new contract to the customer but as with renewals, it is always wise to shop around first. We are here to help you find the best deals available.
